The Derby Lifter

The Derby Lifter is a remarkably simple product consisting of a winch, mounting system and attachment pieces.

It is designed to make it possible for one person to fit an A/C Outside unit onto a wall mount without extra assistance, with minimum lifting and is especially useful on second story installations.

Main Features Include;

1) Simplicity and ease of assembly and use.

2) Ability to let one man safely do the job that usually needs two.

3) Cost effectiveness in time saving and OH&S compliance.

Benefits To The Installer;

1) Potential cost saving to the installer through less man hours to install unit. (More profit through greater time efficiency)

2) Potential to help reduce workplace injuries due to overlifting and difficult installations and resultant employee downtime or absenteeism.

3) Potential saving through less damage to units during installation. (Unit is less likely to be damaged through accidental dropping or mishandling)

4) Potential to help in OH&S compliance and QA compliance.

5) Greater ease of installation, less stress on installer, particularly in second story applications.

6) Possible tax benefits as a tool of trade.

Product Description
The Derby Lifter consists of;

1) An Electric winch, support arm and controller.

2) The Hoist arm with attachment screws and stabilizer adjustment.

3) A pulley for doubling the cable for weights over 70KG. (very seldom used)

4) Tie bar and straps.

5) Nuts. (Consumable: 2 per lift)

6) Approximately 7 metres of steel cable.

Mounting Process;

NOTE: The Derby Lifter is designed to be used with Topline SG folding Wall Brackets (s/n 5498/ 5499), available from all Polyaire Branches.

1) 2 nuts are slid into the Channel of the A/C Bracket cross piece (These are a consumable item as they remain in the channel)

Each Derby Lifter comes with about 6 nuts and replacement packs of Derby Lifter Fasteners (Pack of 20) P/N 5832 are available from all Polyaire Branches.

2) The folding bracket system for the outside unit is firmly attached to the wall at the desired height. (Care should be taken to use appropriate fittings designed to hold the required weight.

3) The bracket arms are folded out of the way and the Derby Lifter Hoist arm attached to the bracket cross member by attaching the screw handles into the previously positioned captured nuts in the bracket channel and stabilized on the wall using the tensioning bolts.

4) The Derby Winch unit is dropped into the top of the hoist arm.

5) Plug in and roll cable out.

6) Secure unit with Tie bar and straps and attach to cable.

7) Use control panel to take up tension and lift unit above fold down bracket arms.

8) Fold down bracket arms underneath unit and lower unit onto arms.

9) Secure unit BEFORE releasing from cable.
(for safety)

10) Release cable and remove Derby winch,
tiebar and straps.

11) Remove Derby hoist arm from behind unit.

Lifting Capacity;

The Derby Lifter is rated to lift 70 Kilos (or 140 Kilos with the pulley doubling the cable) This is well within the capabilities of the unit. Given that most outside units are below 70 Kilos the whole unit is well under its acceptable limits and should last well.

It is accepted that, in most installations, the larger outside units (double fan models) are installed at ground level and there will be little likelihood of these having to be lifted with the Derby Lifter. Having said this it is rated to 140 Kilos so should do the job easily.

Not Convinced?

Ask for a demonstration

Every Polyaire Branch has a demonstration model of the Derby Lifter ready to show you how easy it is to erect, take down and more importantly, how easy it is to mount an A/C unit onto a wall using one. Call in to your local branch and ask to see the Derby Lifter in use, (they might even let you borrow it!)

EXAMPLE: Imagine you (the installer) are carrying an outside unit up a ladder to install on a second story wall! - What happens if the unit is dropped? - Who carries the cost? - You do!

This won't happen if you have the unit firmly secured to a cable from the Derby Lifter. You are also not put in the potentially dangerous position of carrying an outside unit up a ladder in your arms and trying to steady it while you secure it to the brackets.

All this is done by the Derby Lifter, so you can work safely underneath the unit without having to support it as well. The Derby Lifter eliminates the strain, the stress and the accidents!

Cost Effectiveness

The average contractor will install anywhere between 400-700 outside units per year. (both High wall splits and ducted units)

Based on these numbers the Derby Lifter will cost less than $3.00 per unit. That's potentially a lot cheaper than Medical benefits and Work Cover payouts for injuries and easily absorbed into the charges for the job.
